Neighborhood

East Garfield Park is an area that is still majority minority, filled with houses on the block that have been rehabilitated, next to boarded up ones. That said, don't expect high district level amenities such as a Starbucks on the corner, think more gas station coffee instead.

Guest Access

The entire home except remaining private rooms are available. This includes the kitchen, dining room, billiards room, parlor, laundry room, and of course common bathrooms.

Good to know

The space is in an old victorian era (c.1895) limestone/brick mansion located on Chicago's west side in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. It overlooks Washington Blvd. and is about a block from the Kedzie Green Line Train. Please note if you book, this is an old house, with over 125 years of living. This means lumps, bumps, scratches, and things in general that are less then perfect. Most people enjoy this character of a house, and it's why they book. I allow LUGGAGE DROP OFF! You can store your luggage in the closet before check-in and after check-out times, you can drop it off and pick it up as early and as late as you would like. Public transit options (train, bus, bike share) available about a block away.

Other Details to Note

I mention this in the neighborhood section of my listing as well, but it's worth repeating here. Please do your research and know where you are booking. I've lived here for over 7 years and never had a concern for my own safety or that of the thousands of my guests. Also, please note that I don't have keyed locks on interior doors of the home. If this is a problem for you, please don't book. I trust you, the guest, with my single most valuable asset and all of my personal belongings. I have never been given a reason to doubt that trust in this community, but if you plan on breaking that trust, please don't book.

beautiful place! loved having our own little area of the home to explore, as well as the rest of the common areas! very friendly staff and lovely neighborhood, garfield park is right next door with tons of walking areas and breakfast spots. would love to check out some of the other rooms in the house one day, but the florence room was a great introduction!

The place is exactly like shown on the listing. It's a great room in a very nice house. The host is very communicative and responsive, the check in was very easy and the given instructions were easy to understand. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay a little outside of downtown, this is a good choice. The train station is super close and trains depart every 5-10 minutes.

Staying here was great! The descriptions on the listing and information the host sent after booking/leading up to staying there were extremely detailed and accurate, which helped me know what to expect going in. Make sure you read all the info so you know how the house works, and you'll have a great stay! It was also a very cool and unique house, and a comfortable place to be. Also nice to be a short walk from the El for easy travel into the loop/around the city. I appreciated the host allowing us to park and drop luggage off early, too, since that made our first day on our trip a lot easier. Thanks for the great stay!! :)

The place was nice and clean as described and Ryan was responsive to our messages. The only issue we ran into was no hot water when showering, but we were there in January during winter while it was snowing and it’s an older house so it’s to be expected sometimes I’m sure. No complaints other than that

Find us

The house is about 1 block from the Kedzie green line station. It’s 20 minutes from downtown and about 45 from either airport. There is ample street parking in front of the home for those arriving by car.
