Accessibility

Neighborhood

East Garfield Park is an area that is still majority minority, filled with houses on the block that have been rehabilitated, next to boarded up ones. That said, don't expect high district level amenities such as a Starbucks on the corner, think more gas station coffee instead.

Guest Access

The entire home except remaining private rooms are available. This includes the kitchen, dining room, billiards room, parlor, laundry room, and of course common bathrooms.

Good to know

The space is in an old victorian era (c.1895) limestone/brick mansion located on Chicago's west side in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. It overlooks Washington Blvd. and is about a block from the Kedzie Green Line Train. Please note if you book, this is an old house, with over 125 years of living. This means lumps, bumps, scratches, and things in general that are less then perfect. Most people enjoy this character of a house, and it's why they book. I allow LUGGAGE DROP OFF! You can store your luggage in the closet before check-in and after check-out times, you can drop it off and pick it up as early and as late as you would like. Public transit options (train, bus, bike share) available about a block away.

Other Details to Note

I mention this in the neighborhood section of my listing as well, but it's worth repeating here. Please do your research and know where you are booking. I've lived here for over 10 years and never had a concern for my own safety or that of the thousands of my guests. Also, please note that I don't have keyed locks on interior doors of the home. If this is a problem for you, please don't book. I trust you, the guest, with my single most valuable asset and all of my personal belongings. I have never been given a reason to doubt that trust in this community, but if you plan on breaking that trust, please don't book.

Ryan was a good and responsive host. He gave very clear instructions. I was initially skeptical, given how many rooms there were in the house, but Ryan has clearly thought through the dynamics of having so many: the rooms were labeled and themed, the bathrooms were accurately described, and the common spaces were clean and stocked as needed. The building itself is conveniently near public transportation, so it's very easy to get to and from town. We didn't feel unsafe in the area at all. It was great. History buffs will enjoy the house history he shares before you arrive. It was a good stay that I will repeat.

Host provided clear instructions on how to get in the house and how to get around the house. Even with the other guests, we always had somewhere to hang out or use the bathroom. The area felt safe and was a great location to get onto public transportation.

Super logement pour un des prix les plus abordables de Chicago. Le charme du logement a vraiment participé à notre expérience dans cette ville, et Ryan a été très facilement joignable et réactif, je recommande vivement !

This house is absolutely stunning! My daughter and I had a lovely stay in the vintage airline room during a chilly November cold snap and the room stayed cozy and comfortable. Everything was easy to find and the host was very accommodating with lots of helpful instructions sent before check in.
